The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical database systems, with an emphasis in SQL Servers, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our enterprise applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server Warehouse, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads and movement, and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams. The data warehouse supports an enterprise application suite of program management tools. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively. This position will be required to make recommendations relating to choice of current and future database tools, type of database(s) deployed, and data warehousing methods to use for integrating new systems with existing systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Control and monitoring of database-level access permissions and privileges to current and future business databases.
  • Perform necessary upgrades and new releases for database service packs and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop written technology and business proposals that outline a particular direction for solving the needs of the business.
  • Conduct appropriate testing and Q/A in order to ensure system accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor database baseline performance & operating logs of SQL and other database systems as assigned.
  • Compile database architecture and system documentation including data architecture, best-practice standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary.
  • Assist with creation/implementation of ETL packages using current technologies.
  • Know and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow posted work schedule, and adhere to proper procedures to accurately reflect hours worked.
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with management, employees, vendors and customers. Keep supervisor informed of any problems and/or any issues that need attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • BS Degree in Computer Science, or minimum of four (4) years’ experience in database related fields.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in designing and maintaining database systems and technologies for medium to large-scale businesses, knowledge and experience in the use of current database technologies and design concepts, technical expertise in the integration of disparate systems and processes, particularly in the concepts of middleware implementation between systems.
  • Experience working with virtualized database servers via VMware and SAN storage.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language in order to communicate with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
